Course Description

Integrating Dance and Scientific discipline

In this form you volition learn a standards based approach in integrating dance and motion into the classroom to support scientific discipline content. Taught by a CPS Dance Instructor, this class demonstrates classroom tested lessons on the solar system, incorporating trip the light fantastic and motility activities.

Course Overview: Standards and Objectives

  • 1-ESS1-i. Use observation of the dominicus, moon and stars to describe patterns that can be predicted.
  • 1-ESS1-ii. Make observations at different times of the year to relate the amount of daylight to the fourth dimension of the year.
  • DA:Cr1.1.1b. Explore a variety of locomotor movements by experimenting with and changing the elements of dance (for example, level, size, pathway, shape, speed, energy).
  • DA: Pr4.one.ane.a. Demonstrate locomotor and non-locomotor movements that change body shapes, levels, and facings. Move in directly, curved, and zig-zagged pathways. Find and render to place in space. Motility with others to grade straight lines, curved lines and circles.
  • DA:Re7.1.1.a. Discover a move that repeats in a dance to make a pattern.

1st Grade Science Objectives

  • Students will know rotation of the Earth causes day and night and phases of the moon.
  • Students will know the relationship between the Earth, sun, moon, and other planets in the solar organization.
  • Students volition be able to explain that rotation causes the moon to appear and change.
  • Students will exist able to explain that rotation of the Globe causes dark and twenty-four hours.
  • Students will know and be able to explain attributes of a planet of study within the solar organization including size, shape, speed of orbit, rotation, etc.

1st Grade Dance Objectives

  • Students volition know pathways (straight, curved, circular), shapes (round, twisted, angular), tempo (fast, slow), and size (large, minor, wide, narrow) used to create move.
  • Students will know rotation and be able to rotate their torso in place and while traveling.
  • Students will be able to create locomotor movement while traveling on a circular pathway.
  • Students will be able to crate move with tempo, size and shape that match their planet'southward attributes.
  • Students volition exist able to recognize and demonstrate patterns in movement that represent phases of the moon.

CPS Dance Teaching Artist

Christine Reed

Christine Reed is a dancer, education artist, and educator in Chicago, Illinois. She has taught in elementary schools, private dance studios, competitive dance circuits, community organzations, and subsequently-schoolhouse programs for over x years. While she teaches all genres and subject area areas, her expertise lies in pedagogy modern and jazz dance styles, teaching the creative process, education language arts and reading, and integrating the arts and academic disciplines. Christine graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Assistants, Dance and in Arts Direction. During her undergraduate work at BGSU and afterward Christine taught dance at local dance studios, worked for the School of Fine art and Design at the Toledo Museum of Fine art, and worked at Imagine Madison Avenue Schoolhouse of Arts, an arts-based elementary school, as Dance Instructor and equally a Reading and Math Title I Instruction Assistant for three years. Christine was named Teacher of the Year at Imagine Madison Avenue in 2012. In Chicago, Christine has worked for Columbia College Chicago every bit a Graduate Research Banana and Graduate Student Administrator for the Educational activity Department, at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Design Dance as a Pedagogy Artist, at various local dance studios every bit a dance instructor and about recently at Ravenswood Unproblematic within Chicago Public Schools every bit a dance teacher.
